2008 Releases!

SlugFest Games has announced its 2008 game release schedule. These games should be available for purchase in time for the summer convention season. There are three titles slated for release:

Fishing for Terrorists 2.0: This updated version of the game features all new, full-color art by Kennon James. We've made some changes to some of the cards to make the game play a bit less randomly and to allow for more strategic play. We've also included some new action cards, including Hidden Detention Centers and Manipulating the Media.

More Kung Fu Fighting: The long-awaited expansion for Kung Fu Fighting has finally arrived. This expansion includes:
  • Rules and cards for team play.
  • Martial arts archetypes, including the Venerable Master and the Jade Princess.
  • Cards that allow you to enhance the abilities of your Stances and Weapons.
  • Finishing Moves that allow you to toss your opponents out windows or through walls.

Red Dragon Inn II: This is a standalone game that can be combined with the original Red Dragon Inn to create adventuring parties of up to eight drunken players. Red Dragon Inn II includes its own drink deck, player mats, counters, Gold, markers, and the following heroic adventurers:

  • Dimli the Dwarf: Grumpy, but tough and loyal, Dimli always seems to have a stash of gold secreted away somewhere. He can pretty much drink anyone else under the table. He's really, really good with his matched set of dwarven axes. He's not so good with darts, though. When he starts playing, duck.
  • Eve the Illusionist: Eve defies description, mostly because we don't know what she really looks like. Her powers of illusion have saved her friends countless times from the extremely gullible monsters of the deep dungeon. She's been known to use her skills on her fellow party members when she gets bored.
  • Fleck the Bard: Fleck is a dashing half-elf, ready with a smile or a song. His heroic tales and stirring lute-playing raises his friends' spirits, filling them with courage as they face the horrors of the deep dungeon. Fleck is always up for carousing, no matter the day or night. All the girls think he's so dreamy.
  • Gog the Half-Ogre: A hulking brute from the flinty mountains who unfortunately doesn't know his own strength. He's not the brightest torch in the dungeon, but he's a nice guy and he tries hard. Never, ever dance with Gog.

Dungeon ADVENTURE! Needs Playtesters!

Geoff Bottone, one of SlugFest's designers, has a pet project of his that he's been working on for nigh on seven years now. This project, his very own RPG, has gone through countless iterations and playtest sessions and is now just about ready to see the light of day.

This game is called Dungeon ADVENTURE! It is a fantasy role-playing game based on his ADVENTURE! system. If all goes well with Dungeon ADVENTURE!, Geoff hopes to create additional games using the same system in other genres. He's already thought up some partial designs for Space, Horror, Kung Fu, and Superhero versions of the game.

He has prepared a beta-test version of Dungeon ADVENTURE! and he would like any and all interested SlugFans to have a look. Whether you'd only be able to give it a quick read through, or whether you'd be able to run a few sessions of your own, Geoff would be eternally grateful for any and all constructive feedback he would receive.

Your opinions will help him to streamline and improve the game for its eventual release.

VASSAL Engine for Red Dragon Inn

SlugFan David Neumann has kindly converted the Red Dragon Inn into a game for the VASSAL Engine. According to the VASSAL Engine website:

VASSAL is a game engine for building and playing online adaptations of board games and card games. It allows users to play in real time over a live Internet connection (in addition to playing by email). It runs on all platforms, and is free for personal use.

Check it out! It's nifty!

Origins 2007 Convention Report

Just wanted to give a quick update to all the SlugFest enthusiasts out there.

We were at Origins in Columbus, Ohio from July 4-July 8th 2007. Representing the Slugs at that time were Cliff, Geoff, and Yvonne, as well as loyal Slug Crew members Jen, Nathan, Joe, and Mary. We split a 10' x 30' booth with our friends at Cheese Weasel Logistics, LLC, and were located but a stone's throw from the Paizo booth.

This convention marked the long-awaited debut of our newest games: Red Dragon Inn and Tiki Mountain. Sales of Red Dragon Inn were quite brisk, and we sold almost half of the 100 copies of Red Dragon Inn we brought with us. Our other games did very well sales-wise.

Geoff participated in the Premier Track for the second year in a row at Origins. This track allows convention goers to playest "on the horizon" games with the game's designer. Geoff ran several demos of the team rules for More Kung Fu Fighting, as well as a couple of other projects he's not allowed to talk about at this time.

The SlugFest team sat down for a review with the fine folks at Spewgilist.com. They wrote a really nice article for us, and reviewed Tiki Mountain and Red Dragon Inn. You can view all of the articles on their site at the following links:

The SlugFest team also sat down to do an interview with the fine folks at Head Games Podcast. Check out their site at http://headgames.libsyn.com/ and be on the look out for our upcoming interview.

Cliff, Geoff, and Yvonne had the honor of playtesting a sci-fi/Lovecraftian horror LARP run by the fine folks at Terrorwerks. They run a mean game, with amazing props and special effects. Drop by their website at http://www.terrorwerks.com.

Yvonne and Mary found and rescued a stray cat, which they named Ginny (short for Origins, don't you know). A fellow con-goer, local to the Columbus area, promised to take Ginny to a shelter so that she could be placed in a home. We later learned that she did one better and adopted Ginny.

Happy endings for everyone!

SlugFest Games Announces Two New Games

SlugFest Games, Inc., plans to release two new games in September 2007: The Red Dragon Inn and Tiki Mountain.

In The Red Dragon Inn, you and your friends are members of a party of heroic, fantasy adventurers. You've raided the dungeon, killed the monsters, and taken their treasure. Now you're back at the Red Dragon Inn drinking, gambling, and roughhousing. The last person who is sober and healthy enough to remain conscious and shrewd enough to hold onto his Gold Coins wins the game.

The Red Dragon Inn is for 2 to 4 players ages 13 and up, and plays in 30-60 Minutes. It will retail for $34.95.

In SlugFest's other new release, Tiki Mountain, you are a villager on a beautiful tropical Island... but the Volcano God has become very angry and if he doesn't get a sacrifice soon, he's going to destroy the island! You and your fellow islanders must race to the top of Tiki Mountain. If you reach the top first and prove yourself worthy, you may be the one to make the sacrifice that saves your island!

Tiki Mountain is for 2 to 6 players ages 10 and up, and plays in 30-90 Minutes. It will retail for $34.95.
